Why This Matters in Trinity County
Trinity County's rural landscape means pets can wander miles from home. Dogs chasing deer, cats exploring, or animals spooked by wildlife can end up far from their families. Our Lost & Found program helps bridge that gap.
What happens to found animals:
- We scan for microchips immediately
- We check for ID tags and collars
- We hold animals for the legally required period
- We post found animals on our Petfinder and social media
- We work hard to contact owners if we can identify them
- After the hold period, unclaimed animals become available for adoption
